We are The Picnic Project, Inc. We are a group of individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds that volunteer in the Sanford community every week.
Each Sunday at 1:00 p.m., we provide a hot meal to the community of Downtown Sanford, Florida. The First United Methodist Church of Sanford graciously allows us to use their Fellowship Hall. We serve approximately 65 – 100 people each week, to include the homeless and the precariously housed (those who spend 80% or more of their income strictly on rent), many of whom are single mothers with their children. Along with the hot meal, we provide breads and baked goods which are donated by local groceries. We also have a table with clothing, blankets or any household items we may have that week. We not only serve a meal and provide necessities, we use this time get to know our neighbors and develop new friendships.
The Picnic Project is pleased to announce our new sponsorship program, Adopt-A-Meal. For approximately $100.00, we are able to prepare a hot meal and serve it every Sunday. We are looking for businesses, organizations, churches or individual families and groups to sponsor a meal to serve with a $100.00 donation. With this sponsorship, we invite you, your business or organization to come out and serve with us so you can see firsthand how the money has been utilized.
The Picnic Project was founded in August of 2010, and as of September 2014, we became a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation . All proceeds for the The Picnic Project are obtained through donations and all proceeds are spent directly on The Picnic Project needs (i.e. food, cutlery, etc.) with no salaries paid. We are a 100% volunteer organization with all monies going directly back into the community we serve. All donations are tax deductible.

What to expect on your reserved Sunday:
The Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Sanford. The front of the church is on 419 S. Park Avenue, Sanford, but the Fellowship Hall is at the back of the church, located at the corner of S. Magnolia Avenue and 5th Street. Just look for the playground.
Most volunteers start to arrive between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. At this time, we put up tables and chairs, place napkins and silverware, put out garbage cans, prepare drinks, etc.
We usually serve between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m., after a short message is given by one of our volunteers. We serve like a restaurant by bringing drinks, plates and drink refills to the people we serve. If there is enough for seconds, then they come up to the service line for another round.
At this time, folks will go through the breads and baked goods line and clothing donations.
We clean up the tables, break them down, put the chairs away, wash dishes, then sweep and mop the floors. We are usually done between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m.
